Dragons and sculptures

In Thailand they like sculptures of dragons very much. Almost all temples has some. Dragons can be find all over the place on stairs in white, green, old and new. Sometimes the paint is still wet. Beneath some examples white as a sheet with the stoepa. Complexes in Chiang Mai and the meeting point with Birma and Cambodia are more colorful. The nicest one can be seen with the stairs. By a temple under construction costs nor expenses are spared to get a result better then ever in the past. Above an example that's really old.
Dragons are purely decoration and doesn't have something to do with religion. You get this impression with all the new temples, that religion isn't the course to erect this kind of buildings. It is more to show wealth. To the north the temples are less rich, but more special. Statues from mythological figures like beneath are found in other countries of the far east as well...
