Monks you see them all over Thailand. When your are traveling through the far east you were confronted all the time with unusual religions. Boedism is more less a humanism, then a real religion. In the morning the monks going through the streets and get food from the people. The rest of the day they have to pray and to meditate to reach the nirvana. You get the impression there are quiet a lot of them. But that's appearances. It's belongs to the education of well-to-do boys to stay for a year with the monks as preparation to rest of there live in a better and balanced way. On the pictures you see whole classes with children, enormous statues and cleaning of them...

The Thai are busy with religion all the time. The whole country is full of pagodas, temples and palaces. Some are old. Most of them brand new. Much to colorful to our liking. Many people in hour group was all this excess to much. So not us of Ton Frijters, who made hundreds of pictures of the numerous sanctuaries. He was on other spots or they build in the mean time a lot of new ones. The golden statue is near the border with Laos. The white one was in the fisher village, where we spent the last two days of our holyday on the beach. The other pictures are taken by Ton Frijters on cities were we weren't.

A totally different matter was the festival in Mea Hong Son, that Ton Frijters experienced and we did not. We were in this city too with their nice temples an the giraffe women nearby. The giraffe women now in the town with the festival were totally out of the tune. The splendid pictures of the dancers are the achievement of the modern time with digital cameras...
